In 2015 Dr Trudi Deakin became a founding member and trustee of a Public Health Collaboration UK group, which was established to encourage changes to the current NHS healthy eating guidance.

The initial purpose is to focus on the root cause of the deteriorating public health problem by improving the healthy eating and weight loss guidelines given by the NHS, namely the Eatwell Plate and simple calorie restriction. Alongside this the plan of action is to notify the government of their recommendations with the help of their incredibly influential Advisory Board and Patrons. The collaboration's first report was published in June 2016 and represented their findings and dietary advice for those living with diabetes, which were informed to the government in order to improve our nation's health. This process will be repeated with other pressing health issues concerning the UK every 3 months until improvements are made.

X-PERT Position Statement: Low Carbohydrate Dietary Approaches and Type 2 Diabetes

Although carbohydrate restriction is not a new approach for the management of Type 2 diabetes, interest in its safety and efficacy has increased significantly in recent years. The purpose of the current position statement is to summarise the key relevant research in this area and to clearly set out the position of X-PERT Health on the use of low carbohydrate dietary approaches (LCDs) in this population.
