I have been following the Low Carb dietary approach for the last three weeks and I have found it is working well for me. I have not felt hungry at all despite giving up rice, pasta, potatoes etc and any sweets, chocolates, cakes and biscuits. I would like some advice on counting carbs though.

For example on one day last week I ate :

5 portions of Fruit & Veg    (38g carbs)

2 portions of protein           (0g carbs)

1 portions of milk/dairy     (10g carbs)

7 portions of fat                      (0g carbs)

plus :

Processed Foods  (2 small slices wholemeal bread)    (19g carbs)

My question is do I need to count the total number of carbs I eat in all food types or just Carb / Processed foods?

If I count all carbs eaten the total is 67g carbs,  but if I only count Carb Foods/Processed Foods then the total is 19g carbs.

If anyone can offer me some definitive advice I would be very grateful.

Hi

Thanks for your question, I have been asked to answer this for you.

Great news that you are feeling good about what you are currently doing. and it is working for you.

The most important thing to do is to count the total amount of carbs, as this will have the biggest impact on your blood glucose. So for you, it will be 67g. So you are doing a great job as this is less than 130g per day and is low carb, with the bulk of these coming from natural sources of carbs.

Hope this helps

Paul
