Hi,

I'm trying to stop snacking in the evening and delay my breakfast. I wanted to ask what's the ideal fasting period to make a difference to my glucose levels?

thanks

Hi there,
Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern where you cycle between periods of eating and fasting. There is no ideal - it's all about experimenting to find out what works for you. We are all different so what works for one person may not work for another.

There are several intermittent fasting methods, all of which split the day or week into eating periods and fasting periods. The options are vast and can be changed from week to week, or even day to day, to fit in with your schedule.

A popular time-restricted eating schedule is 16-8 i.e. you fast for 16 hours and the window of opportunity for eating is 8 hours e.g. 8am until 4pm if you are a morning person or 11am until 7pm if you are more of a late eater.

However, you can choose a stricter pattern if you wish e.g. 20 hours fasting and 4 hours eating. It doesn’t have to be the same on each day. Initially you may find it difficult to miss an entire meal, but people often report that it becomes easier over time.

If you take any medication and intend to make large changes to what or when you eat, it is essential that you discuss this with your healthcare team before making any changes.

Good luck! Trudi

Thanks Trudi that's helpful. I was fasting for around 15 hours each night but my glucose levels were still high in the morning. I'll try and increase it for a couple of days week and see what happens.
