I am just getting back onto the wagon and have a couple of questions:
1. What is the fat portion size for an avocado?
2. Can the Nutracheck app. be used for accurate tracking?
Chris
We generally consider one portion of fat to be whatever serving size provides about 10 grams of fat. This would mean that a portion of avocado, when considering it as a fat portion, would be about 50g.
I appreciate that this system can sometimes be a little confusing though. In this case for example, a portion of avocado would be larger (80g) if you counted it as a portion of fruit and vegetables, which would actually be providing you with more fat (16g) than if you’d classed it as a fat!
Generally speaking , for minimally processed foods that are providing some beneficial nutrients (like avocadoes) I would not worry too much about being overly exact when it comes to portion sizes. None of this is an exact science, so as long as you are having serving sizes that are in the right general ballpark then those differences are unlikely to be make or break when it comes to achieving your health goals. A little trial and error may be necessary to help guide how many portions you have from each food group, and to help inform which foods you do and do not want to include as part of your dietary approach, but overall it is worthwhile remembering that these are rough guidelines to help you on your way rather than hard and fast rules.
Nutracheck can be beneficial for people that like to track their intake more closely, and the information can be used to help guide dietary changes.
Hopefully that helps, but please let me/us know if you have any further questions.
Best wishes,
