Great Harwood Rovers F.C launch second course for fitness and weight loss.

Great Harwood Rovers have played a key role in encouraging sports participation and fitness in their community since 1975. Thanks to generous funding by the Integrated Care Board and a really successful first run, they have launched a second programme for men’s weight loss, which is free to participate in and starts on 23rd April.

This is a 12-week programme designed for men who want to participate in football—either by playing or volunteering—but feel they aren’t fit enough. This initiative aims to support men who wish to tackle their weight issues and improve their health through helpful advice and encouragement in a social group.

The programme is exclusively for men with a BMI of 27.5 or higher who are looking to enhance their physical and mental well-being. The 12 sessions will incorporate football with guidance from the X-PERT Weight & Wellbeing Programme, focusing on food-related education and well-being. The first session begins on Wednesday 23rd April, at 6:00 pm.

All levels of fitness are encouraged to take part, and the classes can be accessed by Zoom so no fear of missing out.

Jason Kayly, participant in the first course was delighted with the results. He added, “I found it was just what I was looking for at the time, trying to lose weight and be healthier. I’ve completely changed the way I select food and eat food, it’s changed my relationship with food completely.”

“When I do cricket training, I can’t quite keep up with the teenagers and the young ones, but there’s not many 52-year-olds that run up and down and doing all the bleep tests and all that stuff that people my age just want to do. So I’m quite proud of myself for doing that.

11 pounds lost, and 5cm lost around the middle, which is good. I feel healthier and happier. The only downside is I have to buy new clothes, but that’s a price I’m willing to pay!”
