I struggle to find many diabetic food options especially for deserts without coming across artificial sweeteners, especially when looking for dark chocolate without a bitter taste or with nuts, biscuits etc.. Has anyone got any suggestions ?
I buy Montezuma 100% dark chocolate with orange oil from Sainsburys, it is lovely, they also do one with cocao nib but I just prefer the orange one. lidl also do a 95% dark choc which is a little cheaper. hope these 2 options help
Hi,
Thank you for your question and it is great you are looking for healthier alternative dessert options. If you do not want to eat/use artificial sweeteners then you could find products or bake your own and use natural sweeteners such as Stevia, erythritol, or xylitol. They do differ in sweetness so you may have to experiment with quantities in your recipes. They can cause digestive issues if used in larger quantities at the beginning, so start off slowly and allow your digestive system to adapt and then you will be fine. We do have healthy option dessert/snack ideas on our recipe pages if you would like to look at them.
If you have a copy of our Diabetes handbook then more information on artificial and natural sweeteners can be found on page 106-107 (V14).
Good luck and happy baking.
