The first UK dietary guidelines were launched in 1983, recommending a low fat diet for everyone. There was however NO EVIDENCE to support this blanket approach! The mainstream approach to dieting has been centred around two core principles: ‘fat is bad’ and ‘count your calories’. Since the introduction of this advice the prevalence of obesity has more than tripled to the current rate of 1 in 4 adults (27% of the population), with 63% of the UK population now classified as overweight!

This is because your metabolic rate slows down when calories are reduced. When you hit this brick wall, you will probably start eating at a ‘normal’ rate again after losing motivation and willpower.  While your calorie intake increases back to where it was, your metabolic rate will stay low for a while (for up to a year!) so the chances are, you will regain all the weight you have lost; and maybe even more! Steering away from this traditional weight loss message, X-PERT Weight instead focuses on the latest scientific evidence. We explore how to effectively achieve and sustain weight loss through controlling the hormones that regulate appetite and fat storage. Other factors that affect weight such as stress, sleep, gut bacteria and metabolism are also covered. The programme supports participants in adopting a Low Carb, Mediterranean or Intermittent Fasting dietary approach to meet their goals.

Programme breakdown

X-PERT Weight is a 12 week programme, offered via either structured group sessions or via a web app. When you register on a programme you will receive a 200-page Resource Folder packed full of nutrition and health information, support tools, tips, practical suggestions, recipes, food diary templates and much much more. Sessions are delivered using digital technology to support interactive discovery learning to help you understand the science behind why traditional weight loss approaches have failed and what you can do to lose weight and keep it off!

How do I register on an X-PERT Weight Programme?

You can choose between:

  1. Group sessions delivered by a trained educator (subject to availability in your town). This consists of 12 sessions each lasting for 1½ hours where you can be weighed, discuss the topics of the week and set a goal to work towards for the following week
  2. Web app sessions (downloadable to any smart phone, tablet, laptop or computer) consisting of 12 sessions with video clips and references to your Resource Folder for further information and goal setting


Everyone who registers (group or app) will also have access to the web app monitoring tools to track your:

  • weight
  • waist circumference
  • carb intake
  • eating frequency
  • dietary approach

You will receive weekly reports so you can monitor progress each week in addition to graphs plotting results overtime. You will also have access to the X-PERT Health online forum where participants from all our programmes share experiences, recipes and ideas, in addition to this you will receive further and on-going support from trained educators.
