David Edwin Fletcher was Head of the Environment Department at Manchester Polytechnic/Metropolitan University for 18 years prior to working as an independent environmental consultant to a series of large scale private and public sector initiatives in the UK and overseas. Alongside his paid consultancy work he has considerable experience in the voluntary and charitable sectors, initiating and chairing the Pennine Heritage Trust from 1978 to 2015 and continues to serve as its ‘Lifetime President’. He has also served on many government committees and Quangos, including English Heritage; Countryside Commission; Rural Development Commission; Heritage lottery Fund and is currently a co-opted independent member of the Yorkshire All Party Parliamentary Group. In 1986 he was awarded an MBE and continues to be significantly involved in social and environmental matters, currently serving as the Hon. Chair of X-PERT Health charitable company.
Dr Alan Shaw is a senior lecturer in digital marketing at
the University of Northumbria and a director of Strategic Planet Ltd, a digital
marketing agency. Alan has over 25 years’ experience of working in industry,
much of this was in the health sector. Some notable deliverables were 1) the
role out of the concept home delivery for prescription products related to
individuals living with Phenylketonuria (PKU) in the UK and a number of
European countries, 2) the development of a digital ‘Keto-Calculator’ to
support the management of paediatric epilepsy, 3) the design of a patient
management system to support the concept home delivery for prescription products
in Australia, and 4) completing an SROI review to support a social enterprise
with their funding bid from the Big Lottery Fund. He has a PhD in Social
Marketing, which focused on the challenges of influencing positive health
behaviours of those individuals living with diabetes.
Dr Stephen Lawrence is a Primary Care Clinical Lead in Chatham. He graduated from Leeds University Medical School in 1987. His interest in metabolic medicine was awakened when he completed a BSc (Hons) degree in Chemical Pathology during his intercalated year. He has previously worked as a Medical Advisor for Prisons at the Department of Health, where he participated in an award-winning prison diabetes study. His interests include critical appraisal of evidence-based medicine and diabetes commissioning and service development. He has presented to healthcare audiences throughout the UK and beyond.
Rt Hon David Shutt is a Liberal Democrat Life peer sitting in the House of Lords since 12 May 2000 and currently sits on the EU Financial Affairs Sub-Committee (since June 2015), Audit Committee (Lords) (since December 2014).
