Although carbohydrate restriction is not a new approach for the management of Type 2 diabetes, interest in its safety and efficacy has increased significantly in recent years. The purpose of the current position statement is to summarise the key relevant research in this area and to clearly set out the position of X-PERT Health on the use of low carbohydrate dietary approaches (LCDs) in this population.

Low carb and Type 2 diabetes – the underappreciated importance of reduced medication requirements

In people with Type 2 diabetes, much of the research on low carb diets suggests it is better in the short term but that there is little difference in outcomes compared to other ways of eating over a longer duration. But these studies often don't consider the different impact these diets have on medication needs, an omission that may have a major influence on the conclusions.
